The correct driver tip size is required for proper screw installation, especially with brass screws. Brass is softer than steel. A driver tip that does not fit correctly can slip, damage the slot, strip the screw head, or contribute to a broken screw.
This set includes seven 4-inch, round-body power bits with 1/4-inch hex shanks:
- Phillips #1
- Phillips #2
- Phillips #3
- Slotted for #6–7 wood screws
- Slotted for #8–10 wood screws
- Slotted for #10–12 wood screws
- Slotted for #12–14 wood screws
Choose the tip that seats fully and securely in the screw head before applying power.
Installing brass screws
Set the clutch low on your drill and use the proper predrill size. Apply wax to the screw threads when installing in hardwood.
If driving the screw requires more power than you could reasonably apply with a screwdriver by hand, stop. Excess force can snap a brass screw.
When in doubt, finish with a hand screwdriver. If the screw is difficult to back out, the predrilled hole is probably too small. Increase the predrill size, apply wax, and try again.
